Cook Time: 12 minutes
Total Time: 22 minutes
1 pound refrigerated pizza dough
1/2 cup marinara sauce, plus more for dipping
1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
1/2 cup sliced pepperoni
1/2 teaspoon Italian seasoning
1 egg, beaten
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour, for rolling
Olive oil spray
Chopped parsley, for serving
1. Preheat the air fryer to 375°F for 3 minutes.
2. Lightly flour the counter, divide the pizza dough into 4 pieces, and roll each piece into a small circle.
3. Add a spoonful of marinara, mozzarella, pepperoni, and Italian seasoning to one side of each dough circle. Do not overfill.
4. Fold the dough over the filling, press the edges closed, and crimp with a fork. Cut 2 small vents on top.
5. Brush the tops with beaten egg and lightly spray with olive oil.
6. Air fry at 375°F for 10–12 minutes, flipping gently halfway through, until golden brown and crisp. Serve warm with extra marinara.
Use only a small amount of sauce inside each calzone so the dough does not turn soggy.
Seal the edges tightly with a fork to keep the cheese from leaking out.
Cut small vents on top so steam can escape while the crust crisps.
Let the calzones cool for 3–5 minutes before serving because the filling will be very hot.
Cheese Calzones: Skip the pepperoni and add extra mozzarella with a little ricotta.
Meat Lover’s Calzones: Add cooked sausage, bacon bits, or diced ham.
Veggie Calzones: Add cooked mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach. Pat vegetables dry first.
Spicy Calzones: Add red pepper flakes or spicy pepperoni.
Garlic Butter Calzones: Brush the hot calzones with melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley after air frying.
