Notes / Tips

  • Use only a small amount of sauce inside each calzone so the dough does not turn soggy.

  • Seal the edges tightly with a fork to keep the cheese from leaking out.

  • Cut small vents on top so steam can escape while the crust crisps.

  • Let the calzones cool for 3–5 minutes before serving because the filling will be very hot.

Variations

  • Cheese Calzones: Skip the pepperoni and add extra mozzarella with a little ricotta.

  • Meat Lover’s Calzones: Add cooked sausage, bacon bits, or diced ham.

  • Veggie Calzones: Add cooked mushrooms, bell peppers, or spinach. Pat vegetables dry first.

  • Spicy Calzones: Add red pepper flakes or spicy pepperoni.

  • Garlic Butter Calzones: Brush the hot calzones with melted butter, garlic powder, and parsley after air frying.
