Quick Facts

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 16–18 minutes
Total Time: 26–28 minutes
Servings: 4
Temperature: 380°F

Ingredients

  • 2 medium russet potatoes

  • 1 to 1½ tbsp olive oil

  • 1 tsp paprika

  • ½ tsp garlic powder

  • ½ tsp onion powder

  • ¾ tsp salt, or to taste

  • ¼ tsp black pepper

  • 1 tbsp water for the drawer under the basket during the first 2 minutes

  • Optional chopped parsley for serving

Directions

1. Wash and scrub the potatoes well, then pat them completely dry.

2. Slice the potatoes into even rounds about 6–8 mm thick.

3. Place the potato rounds in a bowl and toss with olive oil, paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.

4. Preheat the air fryer to 380°F if your model needs preheating.

5. Arrange the potato rounds in the basket in a mostly single layer, slightly overlapping only if needed.

6. Add 1 tablespoon of water to the bottom drawer under the basket before cooking. This quick steam-start hack helps the centers soften faster, so the potato rounds turn tender inside and crisp on the edges without soaking.

7. Air fry at 380°F for 16–18 minutes total, flipping or shaking halfway through.

8. Cook until the edges are golden and crisp and the centers are tender.

9. Remove from the air fryer and let them rest for 1–2 minutes.

10. Sprinkle with a little extra salt or parsley if desired, then serve hot.

Notes / Tips

  • Slice the potatoes evenly so they cook at the same speed.

  • The best thickness is about 6–8 mm because thinner slices can dry out and thicker ones may not crisp as well.

  • Do not overcrowd the basket, or the potato rounds may steam instead of roast.

  • Russet potatoes usually give the best crisp edges and soft centers.

  • The 1-tablespoon water steam-start is the key hack here. It helps prevent hard centers and gives you a better texture without soaking.

  • For extra color and crispness, add 1–2 more minutes at the end.

  • Serve right away for the best texture.

Variations

  • Add grated Parmesan during the last 2 minutes of cooking.

  • Use smoked paprika for a deeper roasted flavor.

  • Sprinkle with ranch seasoning right after cooking.

  • Add chili powder or cayenne for a spicy version.

  • Top with fresh herbs and a little lemon zest for a brighter finish.

  • Serve with ketchup, garlic sauce, or ranch dip.
