Servings: 4
Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 12–14 minutes
Total Time: 22–24 minutes
Yield: about 24–28 tofu bites
14 oz extra firm tofu, pressed
1 tablespoon olive oil
1 tablespoon soy sauce
1 tablespoon cornstarch
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon paprika
1 tablespoon soy sauce, for the glaze
1 teaspoon maple syrup
1/2 teaspoon chili flakes or chili garlic sauce
1 teaspoon sesame seeds, optional
1 tablespoon sliced green onions, optional
1. Press the tofu well and pat it dry, then cut it into bite-size cubes.
2. In a bowl, toss the tofu with olive oil and soy sauce.
3. Add cornstarch, garlic powder, black pepper, and paprika, then toss again until the cubes are evenly coated.
4. Place the tofu in the air fryer basket in a single layer with a little space between the pieces.
5. Air fry at 400°F for 12–14 minutes, shaking the basket once halfway through, until the tofu is crisp and golden.
6. In a small bowl, mix the glaze soy sauce, maple syrup, and chili.
7. Toss the hot tofu very lightly with the glaze, then finish with sesame seeds and green onions if desired.
Use extra firm tofu for the best crispy texture.
Press and dry the tofu well so it browns instead of steaming.
Do not overcrowd the basket, or the tofu will soften.
Add the glaze after air frying to keep the edges crisp.
For a sweeter-spicy version, add a little more maple syrup and a pinch of extra chili flakes.
For a garlic-forward flavor, add a little fresh minced garlic to the glaze.
For a simpler version, skip the glaze and serve the tofu with your favorite dipping sauce.
